Perris, California
Perris, California is located about an hour southeast of Los Angeles in Riverside County.
Once inhabited by Native Americans, the area now known as Perris wasn’t discovered by European settlers until the California Southern Railroad constructed a train depot in the area in 1882. In fact, the city is named after Fred T. Perris who was the chief engineer at the railroad. Ironically, Perris never actually lived in the City of Perris. The City of Perris was officially incorporated in 1911.
The lack of groundwater meant that dry grain farming was the primary crop of farmers in the fledgling city. Alfalfa, the King potato, and sugar beets were some of the vegetables farmed in the Perris Valley. Each year in June, the city’s agricultural roots are celebrated at the Rods, Rails and Potato festival.
The Orange Empire Railway Museum, commonly referred to as “the trolley museum,” celebrates Perris’ roots relating to the railroad. In 1956, a group of young men sensed that the rapidly expanding freeway system in Southern California was leading to the death of the Southern California trolley network. These enthusiasts set out to preserve some of the trolleys for future generations. The first home for the trolleys was Travel Town, a display of railway equipment in Los Angeles’ Griffith Park. Ironically, Travel Town faced its demise when the Ventura freeway was designated to cut through the portion of Griffith Park where the exhibit was housed. After months of searching, the group found a new home for the trolleys on an abandoned railroad right-of-way in Perris, which it shared with another group named the Southern California Railroad Museum. The two groups merged in 1975. The Santa Fe Railroad donated the historic 1892 Perris depot to the museum. Thoughout the decades more track was added to create a continuous trolley loop. The museum celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006 and is now the largest operating trolley and railroad museum on the West Coast.

The estate plan you create when you are a young adult will inevitably need to be reviewed and revised several times over the course of your lifetime to reflect the changes in your life. For example, your original Last Will and Testament will need to be updated when you marry and/or become a parent. As the parent of a minor child, you will want to nominate guardians and perhaps save for your child’s college education. You may want to have your trust drafted to safeguard your child’s inheritance until such time as he/she is old enough to legally inherit from your estate and to protect the inheritance from divorcing spouses and creditors. A trust may also be able to help you with incapacity planning and probate avoidance.
As you age get older, you may decide to incorporate a long term care planning in to your estate plan with planning for government assistance such as Long Term Care Medi-Cal and Veteran’s Aid and Attendance. You will also need a durable power of attorney and advance health care directive to round out the components of your comprehensive financial plan.
The estate planning team at Sandoval Legacy Group, A Professional Law Corporation would be honored to be your choice to help you with your unique estate planning needs both now and in the years to come.
