Hemet, California
Located in the San Jacinto Valley, Hemet, California is a city in Riverside County that covers approximately 28 square miles. Approximately 79,000 people now call Hemet home.
The area we now know as Hemet was originally home to the indigenous Cahuilla Indian tribe. In the beginning of the 19th century the area was a working cattle ranch for Mission San Luis Rey known as Rancho San Jacinto. When the missions were broken up by the Mexican government, the land was awarded to Jose Antonio Estudillo in 1842. It wasn’t until almost half a century later that the city of Hemet was founded, during the first major Southern California land boom. In 1887, W.F. Whittier and E.L. Mayberry founded Hemet along with the Lake Hemet Water Company and the Hemet Land Company. Just five years later farmers were irrigating their fields and 39 families were purchasing domestic water from the Lake Hemet Water Company.
Hemet continues to grow today, largely due to the fact that the town serves as a trading center for the San Jacinto Valley’s agriculture industry. In 1910, the City of Hemet was officially incorporated. It wasn’t until the 1960s though that large-scale residential development began, mostly in the form of mobile home parks and retirement communities followed by subdivisions of single-family homes in the 1980s. Hemet’s affordability coupled with its proximity to employment centers in Corona, Riverside and San Bernardino and the growth boom in neighboring Temecula, Murrieta and Menifee led to significant growth at the beginning of the 21st century.
Hemet is well known for being the home of The Ramona Pageant, California’s official outdoor play. Started in 1923, the play is one of the longest running outdoor plays in the United States. Hemet is also proud to have been named a Tree City USA for 20 years by the Arbor Day Foundation as a result of its dedication to the local forest.

The estate plan you create today will not be the estate plan you need in 10 or 20 years because you won’t be the same person then that you are today. The changes that occur in your life will prompt corresponding changes to your estate plan to ensure that your estate plan remains current. The need to review and revise your estate plan is one reason that we urge you to develop an ongoing relationship with your estate planning attorney. When you are young, single, and just embarking on your career path you do not need much more than a Will and a Power of Attorney. As both your family and your estate grow, however, your estate plan will need to be updated to take those changes into account. Marriage, for example, may prompt you to want to add your new spouse as a beneficiary and/or a fiduciary within your estate plan. The birth of a child will trigger the need to protect your minor child’s inheritance through the addition of a living trust to your overall estate plan. Having a family should prompt you to worry about the possibility of your own incapacity and the need to include incapacity planning in your overall estate plan, including an advance health care directive and HIPAA preauthorization forms as well. As your estate assets increase in value, it will become important to incorporate tax reduction, asset protection, and probate avoidance tools and strategies into your plan.
Looking to the future, the need to merge your retirement plan with your estate plan should be considered to ensure that they work in harmony with one another. The potential need to qualify for nursing home coverage as a senior may also necessitate the addition of Long Term Medi-Cal planning and VA Aid and Attendance planning to ensure that you can cover the high cost of long-term care. Your unique needs, such as special needs planning, business succession planning, or pet planning will also be incorporated into your estate plan to create a customized estate plan that reflects your needs both now and in the years to come.
The estate planning team at Sandoval Legacy Group, A Professional Law Corporation would be honored to be your choice to help you with your unique estate planning needs both now and in the years to come.
