Los Angeles often referred to as the “The City of Angels,” “Tinseltown,” “La-La Land,” or just plain old “LA”, is the most populous county in the United States and in the U.S. state of California, with more than ten million inhabitants as of the 2020 census.

With its location right on the Pacific Coast and about an hour’s drive north of Orange County, as well as two hours south of San Diego, Los Angeles has been greatly influenced by its Latino neighbors as well as its Asian neighbors to the west. Cuisines, styles, and overall sensibilities are influenced by these cross-cultural influences. Basically, you can order just about any kind of food, and it’s authentic. The city’s cross-culture influence of over 140 nationalities and 200 different languages is evident in the cuisine, style, and air of Los Angeles.

There are 70 miles (110 km) of coastline on the Pacific Ocean in Los Angeles County, as well as mountains, valleys, forests, islands, lakes, rivers, and deserts. A fun fact about Los Angeles is that you can swim on the beach and ski in the mountains on the same day. Neither outdoor enthusiasts nor city slickers will run out of things to do here.

Within 50 miles of Los Angeles, there are over 106 colleges, some of the area’s institutions, like UCLA, Pepperdine University, and Loyola Marymount University, are consistently top-ranked schools.
